Auspicious Light

A blessing lamp for peace, clarity, and the unfolding of virtuous wishes.

To offer a lamp is to honour the inner light — in oneself, in one's family, and in all beings.

A STEADY LIGHT

Peace and clarity

The name itself — light of brightness — captures the practice's intention: the dispelling of obscurations of every kind, whether external or internal. At a deeper level, the lamp represents the inherent radiance of the awakened mind — the wisdom-light every being carries as their own innermost nature.

WHAT IT BLESSES

Peace

General family wellbeing and household peace.

Clarity

Clear seeing through confusion, anxiety, and uncertainty.

Wellbeing

Recovery from illness and the steady accumulation of merit.

THE MERITS OF LIGHT

A lamp represents wisdom and light. Offering lamps to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas generates immeasurable and boundless merit. Lighting an auspicious lamp can eliminate calamities, increase wisdom and blessings, and bring good fortune to oneself and one's family throughout the year.

The Sutra on the Discrimination of Karmic Retribution (Foshou Weishoujuzhangzhe Shuo Ye Bao Chabie Jing) teaches that offering lamps brings ten kinds of merit: 1. Shining like a lamp upon the world 2. Uncorrupted physical sight wherever born 3. Attaining celestial vision 4. Attaining good wisdom 5. Eliminating great darkness 6. Attaining the light of wisdom 7. Never dwelling in darkness in the world 8. Possessing great blessings 9. Reborn in heaven at life's end 10. Swiftly attaining buddhahood
