Lineage

The True Buddha School was founded by Grand Master Sheng-yen Lu, revered by disciples as Living Buddha Lian-sheng. Beginning as the School of Efficacious Immortals in 1975 and formally established as the True Buddha School in 1983, it has grown into a worldwide Vajrayana community.

Grand Master Lu’s path drew from many streams. Under the Taoist master Qingzhen of the Qingcheng tradition he received early training in inner cultivation, and from there was led ever deeper into the Esoteric path — receiving complete empowerment and transmission across all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.

The complete Tibetan transmission was gathered through four root gurus: Monk Liaoming for the Nyingma school, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa for the Kagyu, Master Sakya Zhengkong for the Sakya, and Guru Thubten Dargye for the Gelug. In Grand Master Lu these four streams meet as one.

At the heart of the lineage are the Root Guru and the practice of Padmakumara. Today, through empowerment and personal instruction, that same transmission is offered here — kept alive not as history but as living practice, carried from teacher to student.
